Beefing up draglink?

Post by Lordtrunks »

Well Bent my draglink bout month ago and got another one from a yard but it seems to bent up aswell not asbad as mine was but enough to may my alinment off and steering slop. Today i also noticed when telling my buddy about it we checked his out and it was bent up pretty bad aswell(almost to the diff) So I was thinking bout maybe welding in a reinforcment bar on it outta rebar or somthing to kinda beef up the stock bar a bit any thoughts on this?

Yeah Patrick I think it certainly could be done.
But I think the next weekest point will fail, the draglink, idler arm and tie rods are all linked and I really think they would all have to be beefed up together.
I did look into this before the SAS a custom draglink could have easily been fabbed, my Gen 2 idler arm shaft would have been replaced with a machined 4140 unit (won't bend that sucker) and a place over here makes up heavy duty (extreme angle) tie rods. You just send one to them to work from.
Cost would have been about $380 for the 2 tie rods, some beer for the idler arm shaft and a custom draglink probly $250 or so. That would have made a pretty solid set up I reckon.

I was hoping that a GenII bar might be an option for a beefier swap, but put a GenII up to my GenI and it was the same exact bar, just a different P/N. Sorry.
