troubleshooting a noise....

Post by stumped »

tryin to track down a noise in the zook, got an idea, but not sure...

got a noise coming from underneath, kinda sounds central or just infront of me. sounds a bit like the clicking noise a pushy makes when ya stop peddling. :? accelerating, no noise, back off hard, not much noise. when i change gears the noise is there when i back off the accelerator, and when i back of a lil to cruise on the flat or slightly downhill, the noise is there. doesn't go for very long when i change gears, maybe 2-3 seconds.

kinda sounds like a noisy bearing spinning or something. only thing i can think of is possibly something clutch, cos i rode it hard trying to crawl the other day (crap gearing) - got seriously hot, at one stage clutch was out and tyres weren't turning much at all...

any ideas, or stuff i can do to try and narrow it down??

cheers

Bring it over tomorrow arvo and we go for a drive and see what we can find. After the weekend i rekon you will need a new clutch regardless of if the noise is related to it or not. Man that was a not a good smell standing next to ya rig. Give me a call if ya can come over.

It could be a crook uni joint thats binding a little. They dont tend to make noise when they are heavily loaded, i.e. under accleration or full deceleration. Try greasing them all up and see if the noise goes away. If it does, the damage is already done, but it will buy you a little time till you can be bothered to fix it.

yeah could be tailshaft unis. check also clutch release bearing, might be making noise when running unloaded but quiets up when you put your foot on the clutch.

Did you heard my clutch the other day Steve, my relase bearing is noisey too. Seeing as ya clutch is stuffed already, why not pull it out, and when ya put new parts in replace the release bearing too. If it the clutch release the noise will change when the clutch is in or out.

Yep. Which you should really replace if you are doing a clutch anyway.
