When i got it, (89 LWB 338000kms) it had the dissy vacuum advance disconnected and was running at 5 degrees timing.I have now reconnected the advance and set the timing at 12 degrees.It seems to be a slug when on gas but a rocket when on fuel.
a) What thermostat should i have as there is none at the moment?
b) Is there usually a big HP difference between petrol and gas?
c) As it doesnt run thru the internals of the carby how is it regulated thru the carby (eg how does it know if your at half or full throttle)?
d) Should i smell gas near the carby after it has been switched off?
Overall very happy with vehicle 20l/100km average on gas, both around town and unloaded on highway use.

Questions on a gas TB42 GQ
a) Im just using the std thermostat
b) I dont notice a huge difference between Petrol and Gas...maybe 10% ??
c) On mine the carby is just used as a throttle body...so the only part of the carby used is the buttlerfly...which regulates the vacum on the top side, which inturn regulates how much Gas is sucked into the engine.
d) Yea...you prolly will smell a little bit of gas after shutdown...not gobs thou. Gas is stinky stuff, and even a little but sticks.

Mine is the 4.2 litre 6cyl. I havent run it around town on petty yet to see what its like.I was told that it is a 110 Litre gas tank but after about 88 litres used it starts to run shitfull therefore i know the AVAILABLE gas is all but used up. It has a different fuel tank which sits under the RHS floor. Supposedly about 70 Litres.
You can only fill an LPG tank to 80% of it's water capacity so 110 would be 88.
LPG can run hotter than petrol because it eners as a gas not liquid so the cooling effect of the change happens at the regulator instead.
For a long engine life you should always run a thermostat to give rapid warm up and reduced wear although unlike petrol which requires enrichning to run cold,and thus unburnt fuel causing bore wash and accelerated wear,I have stripped gas engines with very high kms and found hone marks still on the bores.
Your engine oil stays clean for longer on Gas but oil experts say you should still change it at the normal intervals.
Spend the dollars and have the vehicle tuned by a recommended Gas expert.
