GPS ANTENNA'S.
I run both a Garmin E-Map and a Magalin 312X in my car during comps but find that the Magalin looses satelite a lot more then the Garmin, both have external antenas.
Does anyone know if the Garmin antena can be used on the Magalin.

I'm not sure about the Magellan, but if it's oldish it may only be a four, six or eight channel GPS whereas the Garmin is a 12. What this means is that the Garmin can track 12 satellites at once where the Magellan will be tracking less. You need 4 satellites for a 3d position so the more channels being tracked the less chance of dropping below 4 satellites.
So with this in mind using the Garmin aerial may not solve the problem.
There are good and bad external aerials however so it may be that the one on the Magellan is a dud. Go to GPSOz (search on internet) and they sell aerials as well as plugs so maybe you can swap them over.
By the way, why do you need to GPS's for comp work?

It sounds like you "don't" have a external aerial but need a reradiating aerial. You can try www.gpsoz.com.au but they might be busy at the 4WD show for the next couple of days.

Charlie we DO have external antena's on both, the 312X doesnt have a built in antenna so only works with the one mounted near the rear reverse light this was supplied in the box with the GPS. The E-Map has both, an internal and an external mounted on the front bar.

I found when I had 2 garmins mounted close to each other they would interfear with each other. so may be the magellan doesn't have as good a sheild as the garmin? how close are they? what happens if you move they further apart? I know the garmin aerials have an amp in them. does the magellan? ARe the aerials close together?

The Navigation comps we do require you to get to designated locations which GPS co-ordinates are supplied for and to match photos or get your vehicle in a certain position and take photos to prove that you have been to those spots. It also helps prevent getting lost as you can check your exact location on maps.
