Weird Gearbox/clutch noise..

Post by the_smoo »

Have just got the 40 (1973) up and running.. the clutch has just been replaced, (along with the throwout bearing.. (dellow V8 conversion)) and the gearbox was out of a rig that was running fine b4 i stuck it in my rig...

when i push the clutch in, select reverse, then release the clutch.. i get a whirring type groan from the gearbox/clutch..

the gear does not engage, and the vehicle sits there whining.. if i clutch in and release the gear it goes away...

it does whine whilst the clutch is all the way in..

if i leave the clutch in for a few secondsbefore i select the gear, then it goes into reverse no problems...

i have noticed it does it more when warm..

any ideas :?:

Something rings a bell about not fitting the gearlever correctly and missing reverse in a 40,but that should not be intermitant

I think you are not quite getting reverse and it is the gears touching, try letting the box slow down everytime you use reverse so they can mesh.
