I have a 1980 RR. The dash is really crappy and i would like to fit a disco dash as i believe the bulkheads the same. Would this be possible. The only problem i could see is the speedo drive.
The disco has an electronic speedo. At the point where the pickup sits would the ratio be the same for the disco and the range(is it dependent on t/box ratio as well as diff ratio). Would the drive for the electronic speedo fit onto the lt95. I have also thought about fitting the drive to the end of the rangies speedo cable if the ratio's are OK by means of some sort of a home made adopter.
Any thoughts?

Disco dash into rangie
I would also like to drive an economical 4x4 but I need to go everywhere
There's a bloke in our club (RRC) who has put the later style typwe in with the twin air con controls. it took him about 2 months to figure out how it all went in because no one had donwe it at that time (about 1997-98??).
Personally I prefer the old Rangie dash, which I think have more character. I can see where you are coming from with the earlier type dash for rangies getting scarse now.
Good luck with it.

Land Rover- The Collingwood of 4WD's!!!!
I've modded the dash on my 79 RR.
Bare with me for a bit of modification history.
Original tank replaced with 2 gas tanks.
2 Sill tanks fitted.
VDO fuel gauge fitted for gas qty.
VDO fuel gauge fitted for petrol qty (switch selects fuel from either tank and displays that qty).
That's how I bought the vehicle.
Removed the left instrument (Fuel & Temp) as fuel was no longer relavent.
Installed a VDO temp gauge on the bit in the middle with all the other gauges.
Butchered the left instrument binacle and installed a 85mm tacho.
A lot of work and re-wiring, but it looks good (in my opinion).

79 Rangie (his name is Ralf) 4.4 dual fuel, with plenty of other mods.
Oils leaks are a factory option to prevent rust!

WHAT THE
It all makes sense to me, but I know what it looks like.
I was happy with the early model dash, but I wanted a tacho.
It already had two VDO fuel gauges (gas & petrol).
So I installed a VDO water temp gauge near the others.
That made the original Left instrument cluster (fuel & temp) redundant, and that's where I put the tacho.
It was alot of messing around, but I'm happy with the end result.
I'll post a picture next week. That will explain all.
