how build a hilux?

Post by muppet_man67 »

My cousin has just bought a 88 duel cab hilux and wants to know whats a good path to take with modifications. It will be a daily driver set up for day drives in Victoria and the occasional long weekend in the high country. Running and maintainance costs need to be kept relatively low and it has to appear legal as he is on he P's.

Small lift, Mud tyres around 33 inch and 1 or 2 lockers is a good start.

Then follow up later on down the track with lower transfer case gears, bigger rubber, turbo and more custom work like crossover steer, flexier suspension etc.

They are a funny vehicle, the old Hilux. A pretty good allrounder to begin with, but there are so many mods that yeild big improvements that eventually you will find you have a truck full of completely foreign mechanicals, and a shed full of Hilux ones.
