TB42 Mechanic Required (MEL)

Post by blkmav »

I'm looking for a mechanic that is well versed in working on a TB42 carby as I have a reoccurring idle issue. I just had the carby reconditioned and the issue still occurs. Runs fine for a while then in idles like a pig and I have to keep the revs up around 1000 otherwise it stalls. It also backfires all the time when off throttle.

i take it it's not an ignition problem? i had a petrol one and the standard ignition wa scrap. fitted elec ign and longer rotor, ran sweet then. your symptoms sound similar but i may be way off the mark. good luck.

Didn't get backfiring, but I got popping from my Pirana kit after the water damaged it, idle was changing too, get it checked by an ignition expert I suppose.

Hmmm that sounds like identical symptoms

What was your fix?

The popping was in the exhaust under compression braking, to fix it I installed a Crane Fireball system inside a water proof box. :D

The Pirana kit was fine initially and never gave problems in Red Rovers Maverick before I brought it from him, but I didn't put it in a water proof box and I suspect it collected a lot of splashed water.
