Rockhoppers Series 1 vs Series 3 Qs.

So what differences is there between the two besides the different lower ratios?
Is the series 3 stronger than series 1 or vice versa?
Are they both a simple bolt in install?
Im thinking series 1 may be better for the wifes zook (which we havnt bought yet :) ) because we will be doing a fair bit of sand driving and dont want super low, just a bit lower then stock.
Paul.

series 1's are a common breakage, but if you want 4:1 there is calmini and trail tuff and various other versions available.... or use a s3 and select a higher gear for sand..more choices then...not many s3's have broken, as they are made better these days.....christover

Series 1 ratio will available again soon. (aprox feb) They will be a four gear set and all billet gears. Made to original factory tolerances. 4.11 to 1 ratio low range.

Series 3 are in stock. 6.129 to 1 ratio low range.

tripod has series 3 behind his 1.3 running 32 mongrels and he has no ratio dramas in the sand, he just uses high range.
I have s1 behind my 1.6 with 4.11 diffs and i do the same

low gears are for the rocks

Hey Paul, you could always buy my S3 for $4500, and get the rest of the car with it. It works great in the sand coz the tires have so much displacement.

That is an option :)
What are the specs on your zook?
How many Ks?
Lockers?
Probably after something a bit more standard and neater (ie not rolled :finger: ). But we may consider it.
Paul.

Buy my car and I'll buy DeWsE's! Rebuilt motor, new tyres, clutch, brakes etc...

What's the go with shorter diff ratios anyways? What are they likely to set you back, are they hard to find?

if you change your diff ratios your on road gearing will be crap unless you run bigger tyres to suit , unless you go from 3.9 to 4.11 (but why would you) but if you go to 5.12 r/p on 31's or smaller its a pain on the open road but good off road .

i paid $360 i think or 380 from overkill , if mainly offroad than they are worth evry cent imo

what size tyresyou running ?

now? 28s so obviously looking to move up... but I don't want to on stock gearing, I'm forever getting stuck halfway up long hills as it is.

Weighing up my options atm given that I'm going to have to change my gearing if I move up much in tyre size.

Hmm its definatly an option.
Dewse would you have any idea if your mods would be engineerable?
The cops down here in Manji take great pleasure in their hobby that is stickering cars :bad-words: .
Maybe when we are in Perth for the weekend in a couple of weeks we could take a look at it.
Paul.

clitmaster I think RB paid 350 for a standard t-case to put his rockhoppers in cause the coily case is Dudelux chain driven :)

I was just saying I had one cheap for such a purpose but now that I read your post I see you're asking about the rockhopper. Why RB said what he paid for a std case I don't know

You'll never get transfer gearing for 350 :?
