This is probably a stupid idea but I was just wondering if it has or could be done.
Iwas looking at an early auto conversion for rr's where they bolted a C4 ford auto in front of a 4spd box that had all the internals removed and the box was just a void as the size of the C4 was about the same as the bell housing. A shaft passed through from the output from the C4 to the transfer case.
Is it possible to run the C4 and also run the 4spd at the same time.
Don't run a clutch.
C4 in D 4spd in 4th it would operate as standard auto.
C4 in D 4spd in 3rd it would have approx 1.5 reduction.
So on and so forth.
If you get what I mean.
C4 in 1st 4spd in 1st transfer in low 120 ish to one.
Parts should be cheap and available, C4 can take some torque
Or am I just dreaming?
Regards
Michael.

c4+4spd
out of my mind, back soon.
c4+4spd
Ithink the c4 has a modified extra long output shaft. Modifing the shafts would be the hardest part . The 4spd input shaft would have to be shortened and fixed to the c4 output. Idon't know how it could be done but it doesn't seem impossible.
TUFFRR any info would be appreciated.

I have a book called "Range Rover A History" and there is an article on a 24 speed gear conversion using a Ford BW35 Auto and the Rangie
4 speed manual.
It has a pic from inside the Rangie showing a Tbar and a shortened 4 speed manual shifter and set well back is the hi/low lever.
There is no mention of exactly how they managed to get it all to work together.
A modified Fairie overdrive to underdrive would be far easier to build IMO!
