Radial Claw ------ New question.....

Post by -Nemesis- »

I'm chasing the best deal on some new ones. Before I ring all 4000 tyre shops in the YellowPages, can any one recommend any cheap and efficient dealers in Western Sydney?

Be it 4WD shops or tyre mobs.....

mate ring around heaps.

i called a few places and found massive differences.

up here in Newcastle toronto tyre power had the best price by like 20 per tyre on a 35.

i think they were 300 ea.

so shop around, and dont be worried about putting them against ea other, eg "this other shop will do it for less, can u beat it???"

The mighty Radial Claws sit under the 4Runner now
33x12.5's, but i think they're closer to 34"

Man what an awesome looking bit of rubber. Had the chance for a little test on the way home up a little track. It has a rock step but only for the RHS of the truck, and i've never got up there even with the difflock now. But it just crawled up and sniffed at the poor challenge, even at 30psi lol.

One question you might be able to help me with though. On my 4Runner (2 tonnes gross on a weighbridge). What sort of pressure do you think i should use on road? The tyre shop set it at 30psi, which felt ok, but when i was testing it out this morining they still bagged out heaps on rocks, almost as much as my Coopers did at 18psi.

Try what the tyre guy did for me.

On smooth concrete, spray something like baking soda or baby powder down and roll over it at say 40psi and let the tyre down till powder is over all tread blocks.

cheers

Thanks i'll try that one.

I didn't get any special deal. I rung a heap of shops and none of them said under 300, so thats what i paid. I couldn't really muck around cos i'm going away next week and it was a case of asap.

On my GU patrol ute I run my 305/70 R16 at 35-37psi and what I've found off road is that after I'd used them for a bit I didn't have to let them down as much to bag up. I started at 15psi and now I only let them down to 20psi. Even so they seem to bag up more than at the start on 15psi. Keep an eye on them after a few uses because the pressure that you start with may let them pop of the rim after they start to bag up more easily. Awsome tyres but they (or I should say I) lack confidence on sideslopes with them cause they seam to roll a lot on the rim and makes you feel like your sliding. I've gotten used to them now and I just crab accross slopes with ease.
