how to sell a defender?

Post by mabsydney »

Just wondering what success people have had selling their defenders and where they advertised. As it is something of specialist market for this vehicle.

I"ll be selling my Defender TD5 soon and I was gonna start by putting it on the common web sites (carsales, tradingpost, drive) and forum sites. Then maybe put it in the paper. Obviously a dealer is the last resort.

Any tips?

Thanks,

td5 for sale...

Post by justinC »

Send it to me, We have a shortage in Tassie of GOOD Defenders for sale.

I looked at one the other day, a 1997 TDi 110 with 180,000km, no air con, filthy, wornout axles, poorly maintained, badly leaking oil from diffs/gbox/oilcooler lines etc, sagging hoodlining, etc etc- asking $21,500!!!!! The customer had sent it from the car yard who had the only one on offer in Hobart at the time, in 10 minutes I found $3000.00 worth of work to be done, the thing was overpriced and poorly serviced and filthy. I then had an altercation with the yard owner over this and I mentioned that HE wasn't the one buying the vehicle, and the customer deserves an honest opinion...etc. Fell on deaf ears.

We need to stop the reject unsaleable vehicles from the mainland yards ending up down here and touted as 'Good' examples.

Thats my dummy spit done, send me a PM if you are interested, I can travel to inspect/buy for customers down here, they pay, I fly and hopefully buy.
