Where the hell do you drill the hole for the air line on the high pinion 80 series diff centre????????

help please!

There are two places to drill it...the wrong place (like i did) or the rite place.
Looking at the ctr with pinion flange staring at you, the hole needs to be at the 11 oclock position and go through the side of the housing parallel to the gasket flange.

Thanks! is that just above the oil cavity or in the oil cavity?

You too hu. Mine has a brass bung where i first drilled the hole :D

I will see if i have a pic that shows where mine is fitted.

Yes it is very tight. Its a PITA to fit it and do up the bulk head.

First hole i drilled was right on top of the Crown wheel. I had taped it to before i realised where i had drilled.

Its now my Crownwheel inspection hole ;) :D

I can check my hemi ..... i drilled under the pinion in the same place you would drill a rear lux ctr...then i turned it upside down, or the right way up and thought BUGGER. Works ok, hasnt been broken off yet!

Chad, it is a little bit fidly with the oring setup on one side, but if you have the dial indicator and are friendly with your workshop manual, its not that hard.
By putting a new centre in, you have only upset the backlash adjustment (is it 8 thou)
If it is all together, and you dont have an indicator, then i would be visiting the local mechanic and offering him a case of beer to set it for you.

One day a rock will get to it, and i will move it and plug the hole.

I have a dial indicator and most the gear but i have never set up a new ring and pinion and a new centre before. everything is assembled and the tooth contact is showing high on the tooth(closer to the peak of tooth) and towards the inside of the crown. i used the original shim that was in the centre but i dont think it is correct for this setup i think i need a little bit thicker shim to set the tooth contact to the middle and also have the correct preload and back lash.

All my mates are saying "just jam it together she'll be right"

yeah mates r great but if it shits its self no one will come n pay for a new one. Small trick once centre is fitted n tightend spin the pinion around to make sure u did not knock the brass air line onto the crown wheel , otherwise it will rub threw on the crown wheel and a premature fault will occur

Hi Chad....i wasnt aware you put a new pinion in aswell...in that case, get it to a specialist (thats an expensive word) because the contact patch should be in the middle...you need to shim the pinion with less to get it baqck towards the ctr, or increase the lash to 12 and check again.

You can drill low,under the C/W, and run a right angle fitting to take the line sideways, then fab a bash plate which bolts on to the diff head bolts and protects the lot.
