Blue smoke on NG model

Post by awbeattie381 »

Howdy,

Ive posted this on the overlander and vic pajero forums so apologies to anyone reading this more than once.

My 1989 3.0L V6 pajero like most suffers blue smoke after idle and also on cold starts. Its now becomming quite bad as it even blows blue smoke after a 10 second idle. Ive read some forums that i should get the head done which includes the valve stem seals. How much life does this give to an engine that has done 185 000km?

As im going overseas in Oct for 12 months im unsure of what to do with it. My options are to leave the engine alone, store it and get it looked at when i return to oz. Otherwise i could sell it now (without the top end done) or just before i leave (with or without the top end done depending on if the engine sh!ts itself).

Storage costs may be expensive though if i decide to keep it. If i sold it however, i would be able to get a low kays jap import NG intercooled turbo deisel and transfer all my extras across.

Any suggestions?
Andrew

Hmmmm tough one there, it really depends on how much you want the truck. It will be the valve guide seals for sure if you did the top end it really depends on how good the rest of the donk is as to how many K's you will ultimately get.
I tend to lean towards fixing it now as at least you know whats done to the truck. The 3.0 V6 is an honest motor but no powerhouse and well maintained will get well over 300,000K's.
I just luv my "clacker Jabber"
