1.3ltr to 1ltr Transfer case. early 83?

Post by BundyZook »

I have a guy one OL who is offering me 2 of the older type 1ltr transfer cases for next to nothing and was wondering if there any major hassles with connecting the pre 84 case to a l.3ltr i heard there were and was wondering exactly what needs to be done to get it to fit if it will at all.

Mines an 83 and it has the t-case with the light on, so dont go on the year, go on the light.
The non lighted cases are majorly different, inside and out, and have totally different mounts. Also there is no rockhoppers or any other gearing options available for them.
but if real cheap, may be worth the hassle, if there is enough around for spares etc.

My bro had the early 1lt case and the mounting bracket may be different but the cases are the same. We mounted up a later 1.3lt case using his original 1.0lt brackets. I have to say the earlier cars also had a sturdier mounting system but cases are interchangable but no light as stated.

So if you are not worried by the lack of the light switch and redrilling the flanges to match your 1.3 shafts go for it.

thats good news, so because mines a 1.0 litre and I have no intention of using a rockhopper, then an older t-case could be cheaper option than a reco on mine...I assume they use same hand brake system? christover

Iam nearly finnished in the process of mounting up an early non 4x4 switch tcase to my 1.3. Its the harder way round it cause the flanges are different and the speedo drive gear is different. Iam going to try and use the 1 litre flanges with the 1 litre 1/2 yolks which will hopefully match up to the uni on my driveshafts. Dunno how far the speedo will be out atm tho, using the 1litre drive gear.

thanx fer the info. mine is already a 1.0 litre t-case, with a light, it is just stuffed...I figured it may be easier to fit another, than rebuild mine..but 1.0litres with light is popular and therefore dear, so fitting an earlier non light may be ok in my case. I not sure if my case has same drive as 1.3 or not...If I get another case I may have a spare drive, but won't be for a while. christover
