so went around and found a GU 70amp alt and it bolted straight on
same plugs as well cost me $400

Check my thread in auto elec.I just upgraded mine to a 90 amp bosch for 300
some GQ models after Dec 92 run a Hitachi 70A alternator, for those of you who have older models with the 50 or 60A Hitachi and are due for a replacement, upgrade for a little more oomph!
It's a Hitachi LR170 - 740, I have this one (unsure if it was standard) in my 92 Maverick.
