Radiator Stuff and a stuck pen....

Radiator Stuff and a stuck pen....
Ok people. 1st up I am starting to design a sheetmetal/alluminium shroud for the disco to accomodate electric thermo fans. I need to know the distance the bolt thingy protrudes that the current engine fan sits on when you remove it. Can this bit be removed completely...
Secondly when I was opening the bonet I placed the pen dowwn a little to briskly and it went through the figgen slot in the metal between the lights. See pic.
Is their a quick way of retrieving this or should it just stay there untill the font end is pulled appart for whatever reeason.
Finally My measurements for the radiator were:
690 x 400 x 55 for the core
65 x 60 x 400 for the end tanks
Do these sound right??

Hi Stuee
See the hexagonal nut that the fan viscous hub is attached to?
That is the bit you undo on a left hand thread to take off the fan. ( very XF Falcon)
The thread is all that pokes out from the wasserpumpen thingy.
Should have plenty of room. Does a EF ford ( sorry for using the F word twice) pair of fans fit?
They come already in a shroud and bracketry as a unit, and will mount easily if they are not too wide.

Thinking of making it a bit bling and using aluminium with either a single 16" or twin 12"s from davies craig. Will cost a bit more but it will look cool Hopefully we can get the fit and finish all nice so it looks a bit better than sticking the ford shroud and thermo's on.
So you rekon the thread will only stick out about 15mm or so then (pretty much to the begining of the fan (engine side). At lest thats where I'm guessing the thread goes to because the nut finishes there.
Any ideas about the pen

and now the pen....
Stuee, I can't see that it would hurt to leave it there, as long as it doesnt touch rad or anything, try compressed air to blow it out?
Have fun blinging. Shroud sounds good in ally, pics when done please.

GO to Super cheap and get one of those claw finger spring pickup gadgets - don't know what they are called but it has a thinlong metal flexible arm you push the plunger on the top and 3 hidden fingers come out the other end, to grab the item. great thingo for retrieving those lst screw and bolts that always seem to fall out of reach.
Only a couple bucks too

UPDATE
Started designing shroud. Have got the basic bit done now I need to have a closer look at how exactly its going to be mounted to the radiator. I hope to use the original mounting points but I'll decide later.

This is a pic of the fan attached to the shroud. Fan is just basic blocks with the important bits being the width and the mounting points.

This is a pic of the shroud folded up. I hope to have it tig welded along the seems.

This image shows the shroud in a flatpack form.
All of this is still pretty basic and I don't know how quick my progress will be as I start my new job tomorrow , 5 1/2 days a week with 10 hr days , its gonna be tuff. Taking a year of uni to get a nice car and some money so the disco will finally be mine to do what I want to it .
edit pics were a tad to big (physical siz, there only about 40kb) so I've just put the links in instead.
