Can an alternator from other vehicles (commodore, falcon, etc) be modded to suit a FJ40?
Need to replace mine but dont wont to spend a fortune.

definately need a new one. too many lights are draining the battery at night and Im sick of jump starting it in the morning. the standard alternator only gives off about 40amps I think and with everything on Im draining 55amps
theres nothing wrong with the old one I just need more juice. i was thinking of getting a cheap one of a common commodore or ford from a wrecker and mount it on the 2f.
what do you think?

there are some universal types not sure if they fit that model ive got one for my hilux 120amp but im running a 253 in it

Have you tried ringing up your freindly local Auto-Elec and seeing if yours can be re-wound to about 70amps? Failing that, he might also know what alternator will fit that has more power.
