Transfer Case temp

Hi there.
Recentley I have noticed that I am getting a lot of heat from my transfer case. ie The transfer gear stick and the carpet around gets very hot.

This happens when doing speeds of 100k's for more than about 15minutes.
Don't have a proble around town.

Have checked oil, and is ok.

What could be the problem.

Doese anyone else have this problem

Any info woulds be great

most of the time your g-box and transfer will run at the same temp as your motor . as heat transfers threw the motor to the g-box .
even your diffs will warm up to around 60 to 80 deg C .

What he said.

If you want some hard evidence, buy a cheap temp guage from super cheap, some white heat transfer grease from dick smith, mount the temp sender on a clean solid surface on the transfer with plenty of the grease surrounding the sender, to help with heat transfer. This will help to get some data on temps.

How many ks on the clock, you might have some backlash/wear now as ks go up, also the grade of oil will alter friction/resistance within the case.

I can't remember if you had a painted DX/RV or GXL - center diff model.

Mine gets hot with the window down.
What happens is my boots around the sticks arnt the best and with the window down it creates a negative pressure in the cab and draws the heat in :)
With the windows up and aircon on all is good.

Now you mention it i did notice air coming up around the stick while the windows were down, but no problem with air con on as you said.

Is there any thing you can do to stop the heat coming through.
ie the carpet get pretty hot.

Only 120 000ks on the clock and backlash is good.

Have put double cardon joint on front shaft since 6 inch lift.
The problem doese seem to have ocurred sometime since this.
Not sure though.
could this be a problem?
