GU Steering box onto a GQ?

Post by SilverMAV »

The steering system on my SWB mav is cactus. pump last week, now the box is to be replaced. I was wanting to put the GU sterring box on due to it being stronger. Is there any specific Gu model, petrol/ diesel I need to look out for?

Mine: SWB '88 Mav, TB42-petrol.
Thanks

Late model GQ or GU

Post by Not For Highway Use »

Late model 1994 onwards came with a stronger steering box. When you look at one you will see four large bolts near the input shaft. On earlier models they had what appears to be security type bolts. These late model units are very similat to the GU units. If you put in a GU unit you will need to have it machined to accept GQ taper or bolt in a GU front diff and use GU steering components. GU's came with an inline oil cooler.
