Hi guys, I finally signed up, I've been reading this forum for quite some time. Realizing there's actually quite a large following of Suzuki's in melbourne, I've spotted 5 nice rigs in the Box hill area alone.
I've had my stock 91 2dr Vitara for about 10 months now, and I've finally saved up some $$$ to mod it.
After long decision, and the fact that I just moved into the CBD, I've decided to add some extractors and lower by 50mm's.
Before you all throw a brick at me, my car rarely makes it over 60 in the city back streets, and I need firmer cornering for more weaving power. ( specially when I'm late for work ).
My main question is, anyone have experience with a reliable suzuki mechanic with fair prices in melbourne? ( or does anyone run a suzuki shop here for that matter )
I've thought about extractors and lower, and perhaps later on exhaust mod.
Any tips for increasing my acceleration at lower speeds would be greatly appreciated,
hope my novice questions don't piss anyone off, took me 2 weeks to figure out how to open my Vitara bonnet.
this forum kicks ass when it comes to suzuki's, I reckon you guys would have a good idea of how I should mod my vit.

I plan on this one never going 4wding, I might look to another vitara when that time comes. ( that's the good thing about the vitaras, the price is just right )

Get efi. Single point injected conversion. This plus your extractors and exhaust should be good for power and fuel economy.

Auto or manual? If it's an auto you could swap the 4.625 diffs for 5.125"s. Youl'll lose some ultimate top speed but it'll accelerate harder. You could get the head shaved to raise the compression, run premium fuel and have the timing reset. Put on a hi-flow air filter. Tri-Y extractors, hi-flow muffler and 2" pipe. Get your cam reground and/or some vernier cam gears to reset the cam timing. As for your suspension, when I had the Old Man Emu lift it handled and rode better than stock. Don't forget you could always swap tyres and rims for something a little wider which would help your handling and and lower which would have a the same effect as swapping diff ratios. Dion at Susuki Carbusters in Brooklyn 9318 9400 may be worth a call as he knows a bit about these engines.

Thanks! This information was the stuff I was after, I have so many more things to think about now.
Also, everyone seems to be talking about OME shocks. They must be good, and worth looking into. Atm I feel every bump when I drive, my gf complains about feeling carsick in my car. I definitely need a wheel alignment and some research into shocks.

if you want more acceleration then put a weber on it with a ramflow aircleaner. it will bolt straight on using a LYNX adaptor plate and being a 1.6 the jetting wont need to be touched. Get one off an escort or cortina. should cost ya about $50 for a half decent one, $50 for the ramflow and about $40 for the LYNX adaptor. if you get all the parts id be nore than happy to help you put it on.

if you dont have the moola to go EFI, go the weber. the weber is great, i got mine for $75 and it was off a Cortina. i put a gasket and seal kit through it, and got it serviced for not much more. i put it on myself, took it to my mechanic, and he did the timing and mixtures with an electronic CO2 machine thingy.
it runs sweet, or did run sweet, but i do have 31" Muddies on, and have 5.12 R&P. but if i had my old 235/75R15 tyres on, i reckon i would keep up with all the ricer boys' 4bangers.
if you can find a weber 32/36 (DGAV, thats what i got) for cheap, then you can get it all sorted for a couple hundred bucks. i just wish i had people offerening me help when i needed it, oh well serves me right for being so far away.
also, check on EBAY, they usually have some good ones come up for cheap, and apparently 32/36 are slowly getting rarer, as weber have stopped making them. not too sure about that.
and, if you do get a weber, get extractors and a good free flowing exhaust system. that should work the best for cheapest. and with engine oil, changing to full synthetic 5W-50 (or 5W-40) will improve response.

yep i agree, my car is even zippier with mobil fully synthetic... 12000km=$60 is not that expensive of an investment tough i plan to change it sooner
of course providing your engine doesn't consume oil

I'd certainly owe you a slab or two, I'm keeping an eye out for weber.
The extractors and exhaust are a must! These are the first two things I will do. I checked out my exhaust today, and I think it has holes in it...
All the tips have been great, I'll certainly put alot of them into practice, especially the upgraded engine oil.
I've started taking pride in my car now, gave it a dissection and vaccuum from top to bottom tonight, and I found a Nokia 8910 in there ! Lost that half a year ago...
