Modifying rear trailing arms

Post by 86MUD »

Hi all

I need a set of bent rear trailling arms for the rear end my 86 Rangie . I have a 2" spring lift, modified shock mounts and long travel bilsteins and I keep chewing out the trailing arm mounts...plus the standard arms are restricting my travel.

What's the best way to go? I priced a set from Scorpion racing and at $660 a pair, this is a little harsh on the wallet. I can weld and bend, but just want to know what is the best size and type of tubing to use.

I was thinking of cutting the exisiting arm just near the threaded end and welding this onto a stronger bent piece of tube.

Or...is there another stockist of these?

Cheers

Andrew

Les Richmond does wedges for the mounts to point the arms downwards.
Straight arms are always stronger, although you can of course gusset.
Its not pretty when an arm lets go.

I've also seen a few lower links let go, both straight and bent and its not a part I would compromise with a bend, even with reinforcing.

Scorpion aren't cheap over here, let alone shipped over to you  There's a few other people who do uprated and bent raduis arms in the UK all of whom are cheaper and most who's arms are stronger. WVA holdings and Gywn Lewis are two names that spring to mind.
