Mate is looking at a '91 turbo'ed Diesel Lux. Owner claims it is a 2.8. Is he getting dooped?

3L started in late 88 as an option . Carried into 89 and became the standard late 89 and on.
I use to own an 88 that had a factory 2.8 D in. I bought it from the original owner, Books and all.
A 91 would have been a non turbo 2.8 from factory so the turbo will be after market. Check it out to make sure it is a respectable turbo and not some crappy setup.
Check the engine number if it is a 2.8 then it will be a 3L start if it is a 2.4 then it will be a 2L starter.
If it looks liek a fctory turbo then make sure it is not a 2LT from an import.
