Sill Bars

Sill Bars
Just had a quick search on sill bars and it seems the two being used are the haultech ones and the rangie spares items. Currently chssing some bars to replace the sidsteps (standard) on the disco which drop ground clearance by about 40-50mm.
Does anyone have any pics of the haultech ones??
I wouldn't mind some of these from rovertym in the US as they have the extra protrusion that stops carpark dents in the door. However I cannot be stuffed getting anything from the US and $550US is a ripoff.
Does anyone have any indication of prices for both the rangie spares and haultech items.
Cheers
Stuart

The Rovertym ones are completely different to the Rangie Spares ones, which attach to the body rather than the Chassis. I saw a Silver Disco at Narrabeen last weekend with the Rangie Spares ones which still had crunched front guard and LH door, although I do not know whether this was before or after the bars.
I am planning on buying the Rangies Spares ones , as they seem light and should prevent the most common rock step damage ie dropping the B pillar on a step and bending the body in the middle. They also look good as they are curved to match the sill line.
Has anyone had experience with the Rangie Spares ones. Do they stiffen the body enough to prevent panel damage from a straight drop, and prevent body bending.
Regards Philip A

give me a day or two and I will get a pic, you don't want them too strong/overengineered I would rather them bend than the sill or the chassis rail (if you bolt them there) and you don't really want to increase your track width that much if possible
The haultech ones attach to the sill with glue and rivets which makes them plenty strong enough. Put it this way, when I removed them from my two door rangie I took all the rivets out and then stood on the end and jumped up and down and they didn't budge.
I had to bend them away from the sill and cut them with a stanley knife, it took me about 1 hour to removed them from my old car.
I would go with the haultech ones, at the price quoted they are really only covering costs - someone has to make them by hand, weld and paint.

There was an thread on the haultech slider install on here, with pics, but that was probably before the pics went down. PM Sam - he still might have the pics on his computer. They may also be able to make you a custom set that come out further than std if you want.

can anyone tell me if there are any clearance problems with sill tanks using either Rangie spares or Haultec bars. I picked up a set of new Rangie spares sill tanks a while ago and thought I might fit some rails at the same time. the sill tanks will be mounted higher than usual to take advantage of body lift.
thanks
thanks

I was not worried about bottoming out but more with shopping park dents to the doors that I think the sill rails could prevent
The tanks on my series landie come down lower than my sill bars, but I wouldn't be without them - they are great at protecting the truck against rubbing up against trees and rocks offroad. I rarely touch anything from underneath, only side on (fuel tanks are surprisingly strong too - as the dints in mine will attest).

thanks Tom & Ben thats what I was looking for. I have had a look at the way they would mount and thought I might use a bit of 75X35 hand rail or 125X35 handrail it has a nice rounded edge and flat top and bottom and I have some in the shed. what is the glue Haultech use? liquid nails or some other builders glue?

neutral cure roof and gutter silicon, go with bostik brand that works pretty well, they use another brand now but I can't remember which one, either way mine are glued in with bostik brand - bunnings carry it $4 per tube
Smell the tube - make sure it doesn;t smell like vinegear it has to be neutral cure

If you don't ever want to take them off use sikaflex (291) - available from marine and some auto outlets. It is the strongest silicon on the market - and is neutral cure.

Hi Stuart,
I have just recently designed and completed some rock sliders or sill protectors for the DII. They are heaps better than anything on the market here in Australia, so much so you can even use a high lift jack on them.
They not only protect your door sill but they also protect you body sill as well. As you will see from the photos I have sent to you they have a side rail for side protection. These bars are powder coated and mounted using high tensile bolts with captive nuts which leave a very nice finish on the inside of the door. Instead of seeing ends of bolts.
I have sent an email with pictures let me know what you think.
Cheers,
