Inline air filters with snorkel

Post by benhl »

I have a 22R 94 hilux and want to make my own snorkel and intake system, and at the bayside 4x4 show on the weekend saw a comp truk with a finer filter pod on top of the snorkel, good idea i thought, in the dry!

Is there some way i can plumb a filter of any kind into the snorkel or piping so that i can do away with the whol airbox, and associasted intake crap inside the engine bay? i did this on an old car with an efi engine and it ran a lot better however no snorkel obviously.

Basically i want to run a pod filter drawing from as high as a snorkel, but without having to worry about rain etc screwing it up and i want to run a direct line from the engine end of the snorkel straight to the intake manifold. this will allow a lot more room in the engine bay and give a cooler, more direct intak method = better performance. (i hope) :D

Is there any advice or tips for such a set up? Any advice appreciated pic would be better :D !! Thanks in advance.

I have looked into this as well i'm upgrading to 22 r. There are inline aircleaners available but will need to be mounted in engine bay. Ad was in street machine mag a while ago can't remember brand but basically looked like a bg milo tin with aircleaner inside and two outlets.
I have been trying to empty the biggest milo tin i could get but it is taking a while even with 2 kids. Try ricer pages for other tips they are full of good ideas,
I'm not stuck I'm over here!

if you look at my members thread ive just used a simple pod filter ontop of my snorkel works ok for now but i plan on getting some large pvc pipe and end caps and making a cover for a pod filter and fitting it in my engine bay somewhere somehow
