FOr some reason the hubs run at a unusually high temp. I ve tried less grease and less tension on the bearings, but they are still to hot to touch long enough to enguage them in one go. Any ideas

Sounds like mine being described and from what i hear is pretty standard for nissan front hubs, MQ GQ & GU i know dudes that drive em all & say same thing. :)

i might just be residual heat from the disk break

its a comon thing for the hubs to become hot, they will absorb all the heat from friction from bearings, and also the heat generated from the brakes,

its all got to do with the heat transfer..........

Mine have always ran hot. Just ensure both same temp (ouch)

My GQ is the same. Hot to touch after driving for a while, seems typical amongst GQ's as has been stated already.

The first time i put my old my old MK patrol into 4wd i drove it down a track for about five minutes when smoke started pouring out from the front left wheel/guard area. When i took a look i needed a glove to disengage the hub it was that hot. After dissasembly it turned out that the diff breather was blocked :x and that pressurised the diff blowing out the axle seal and forcing oil all over the brake disc etc. A minor rebuild later and all was good but i check the breathers regularly now ;) .

i heard its because your wheel bearings needs re-greasing :?

the day after mine were done, they are still hot, and Castrol HTB went into my bearings etc.

Yeah I replaced them 2 days ago and they were hot after a 10 min test drive. Go figger. As long as the wheels keep turnin i'll be happy

man thats weird never hear of it! mine dont get hot at all. but heat from the brakes sound logical.

this wouldnt have something to do with the style of rim everyone is running would it ?

just throwing in a opion !

example : alloy rims with not much centre area would keep the brake discs cooler that say a sunraysia with the triangle holes in the centre / face area :?

Larger tyres eg 35s would also have an effect on the temp, the amount of lateral load on the bearings is significantly increased in theory :?:

Yes, especially with a 10 inch rim.

If you don't have access to an infra red temp tester (some sparkies use them) buy one of those dual temperature thermometers, with the sensor on a length of wire - you can place the sensor on the hub at operating temp to get some temp stats (when vehicle not rolling of course). When you are done with the thermometer, you can put it on your fridge to monitor the temps in and out.

when i was locking my hubs in last night, it seemed like the hubs werent as hot as what they normally are, its probably just a once off but i hope it stays like that.

things changed as mentioned earlier: pads, disks and grease. also, it might have something to do with my old disks being full of mud in the groves which created a heat build up, as i havent filled the new ones full of mud yet.
