GQ Panhard Bushes

Have done a search before anyone blasts me :D
Some great info on the replacement of these things in here but just curious as to why most suggest the original Nissan bushes as a replacement ? Given its task is to stop lateral movement, wouldnt a stiffer nolathane type bush be a better option ?

Or am I missing something ?

If the Nissan Engineers specified a rubber bush as being superior to any other bush material, that's good enough for me. I figure they know more about things than the backyard mechanic's opinion.

Errrr..... right :?
They also created a front end that shakes like a bitch and various other monstrosities. If the engineers were so clever, why would be bother modifying our vehicles and have a thriving aftermarket source of upgraded and uprated components ranging from Turbos to springs!! I assume by your reasoning that Pedders/Fulcrum and anyone of a dozen suppliers of aftermarket components are all backyarders too ?

Well... that was as useful as a toothbrush made entirely of ants :D

Well, Nissan never design their rigs to sport larger than standard tyres, offset rims, 6 plus inches of lift blah blah blah, not many manufacturers do. The fact that people do this to their trucks, means they take on the responsibilities of any shortcomings in the truck.

Very few of the reputable suspension companies are represented on this site, and if they were, would hesitate on giving advice on here as they could be taken out of context. My meaning is that most of the reponses you will get on here will be opinions from backyard mechanics (not that there is anything wrong with that - not used in a derogatory term)

If you had searched you would notice that most recommend the use of genuine factory bushes, so my statement still stands.

I'm trying to help you, don't go flaming yourself into oblivion.

the stiffer ones get wrecked much quicker, because they are too stiff. No give when yoiu start flexing.

More on this....basically what old mAtey said but personal experience....

Gleen Marshman from binskins 4wd was explaining this exact thing to me... I have aftermarket adjustable panhard rods on my shortie, and they have urethane bushes fitted to them...

The words he used to describe rubber bushes were that they have a better "memory" than urethane ie.... after a lot of use urethane shit gets flogged out and the crush tube may stay to one said or vice versa.... Whereas rubber bushes are softer, more forgiving and more willing to return to center.....

This may be just me... But the Urethane castor bushes i HAD in the front of my shortie were really loud during suspension cycling. I replaced them with rubber and the noises are gone. Also sometimes my panhard rods get 'clicky' as well....

I have noticed a few times my front panhard rod diff mount nut ? has worked itself loose, creating HUGE vibrations and farking my pwr steering box (Well helping it along anywayz.....). Upon closer inspection it seems to be a product of the urethane bushes being flogged out. The crush tube is loose inside the bush allowing shit to rub.....blah blah blah

I am therefore purchasing a full set of rubber bushes....

I suggested genuin out of experience with others that flogged out sometimes in 1 weekend, not using any names but there is a red two piece item out there that lasted 3 days. Hmm cool not!
if you want it done properly do it yourself

I have also used some blue bushes before and the same thing happened. So much for super sports heavy duty and longer life.

My result: Can't beat the rubber bushes for flexibility and life. :cool:
