V6 Pajero on LPG

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone out there has a 91 V6 3.0i NG Pajero running on LPG. I hear that it is not recommended by Mitsubishi but with the fuel prices at over a dollar a litre and the Pajero getting 17L per 100kms in economy, I am thinking of going LPG. I have requested information from Gas Research Australia regarding their Direct LPG Injection system but I still am wondering if the heads will cope with the gas. I've heard stories of valves burning out at 40,000kms and heads needing new seats every 100,000kms. I've only seen ONE V6 Pajero (NG) on gas so far out of about 50 or so that I've seen around. This also leads me to beleive that LPG may not be too good for them. Are these myths? Can anyone offer some good advice?

Thanks in advance,
Anezka.

i also looked into converting my paj to gas but the gas fitters said that mitsubishi dont recommend it because the heads are not compatable to run lpg .
they said you can run a upper cylinder lube kit , but even the gas fitters dont recommend it.

The problem is that an lpg motor runs a lot hotter cooking valves if they are not up to it.
Mitsi didn't factory warranty lpg kits until 1997 or so when they changed the valve material to cope with the extra heat. It took them a few goes at it mind you.
So my advice to you is do not do it even with an upper cylinder head lubrication kit. The 3.0 V6 will chew out valves quite fast.
2 vehicles that are notorious for this are V6 4 Runners and 3.0 V6 Paj's.

Yea, my 253 HQ gets the same MPG as the Pajero. Three LPG conversion places told me it would be false economy to go to gas. So I didn't.
Having said that, your fuel consumtion sounds really crap!
I get 19.5 MPG, (trip) you work out the metric conversion :D

I dont know jack about it, but what about water injection to cool off the valve seats so the engine could work with LPG

Maybe if I upgraded to Yella Terra heads (If they make them for the Paj) then gas would be ok?
