Outer Limits 4x4 Board

It is highly likely that I will need to get my GQ engineered this week. My brother just borrowed my car on friday and has had an accident this morning. Rear ended a vehicle towing a trailer when it stopped in front of him on a dirt road. As a result we may need to access the cars insurance.

I have looked on the RTA website and it is quite hard to find the exact list of the ADRs to see if you comply with them.

Does anyone have a copy of the ARDs that they could email me, or point me to a link somewhere?

My GQ www.freewebs.com/andrewspatrol/ has:

a 7" suspension lift
a 2" body lift
33" MTRs on 15x8 sunraysias (ROH)
tinted windows (dark but legal on a 1990 model)

The things that I am thinking may be an issue is:

Not running swaybars
height of lift
size of tyres (although I think they are OK)
height of headlights/taillights
length of mudflaps (have heard need a minimum height off road surface)
bullbar (height with lift etc? is a std TJM steel bar)

Any suggestions/advice/contacts (good blokes to see) appreciated.

I think the suspension lift and body lift may give you probs.

Ring around and explain your situation. They will generally tell you over the phone if they have issues etc.

bullbar (height with lift etc? is a std TJM steel bar) shouldnt be a prob

what sort of damage has been done to all involved?

there is a good engineer in peakhurst the my old man and a few mates have gone through, see if you can find him. or ill try and source the address

Damage to my car seems to be just the bullbar and the UHF arial snapped off. No damage apparently to chassis or panels.

Damage to the car that was ON the car trailer was moderate. Apparently the rear quarter and boot area are bent, and the rear spoiler broke off the car. Apparently the trailer and tow vehicle were not damaged at all...

In Peakhurst I see a guy by the name of John Varetimidis listed, at Consulmotive. Is this the guy?

I am getting my standard swaybar links lengthened this week and I will reinstall them when the car comes back.

that is the guy indeed, some cars he has done are a fully modded zook (lux diffs, coil rear, SPOA front, ute chop) a modded Lux,
and my old mans GU (6" coils, extended swaybars, rear trialing arms, radius arm drop boxes,

john done my last gu wagon 6" sus lift 5 link front and NO swaybars.
diff engineer on my ute but also NO swaybars .he just wrote on the certificate to have the shocks on hard for the road.

John now "apparently" wont engineer unless swaybars r on the vehicle

he never worried before

but now as the rules r getting tighter and higher insurance costs and issues......its become more important

other than that , everythin else should b fine

and yes , long mudflaps

I think with a 7 inch suspension lift you are screwed. I don't know of any engineer that will certify that, but you could ask some of the Tough Truck Challenge entrants where they get there vehicles done.

I can appreciate your need to ask questions about your situation, but a bit of discretion on the particulars of your vehicle would be wise - especially on an open forum such as this. RTA/DOT people do use this and other sites, I'm sure you would not like them to find out any particulars, possibly forwarding a link onto an insurance info board... could really ruin your day!

The car is comprehensively insured on a company policy with all mods listed. It even just passed rego in December as is and wasn't queried.

I am only concerned because the person that was hit was saying stupid things about the height of the bullbar and other stuff to my brother, and I want to be ready incase there is any legal action.

I think my post is OK, especially when you see other posts on sites mentioning illegal activities and knowingly driving unroadworthy vehicles.

Fair point, but the other people's vehicles are not involved in an accident right now...just don't give them any more ammo to use against you mate. Too much personally identifiable info on here now.

Do the insurance company have to look at your car anyway? If you are not claiming insurance on your OWN car then an accessor will not come and look anyway. therefore you could be driveing a stockie for all they know. i backed into a commodore, totalying the front. rang up my insurance gave em my details and the other party and they settled the matter. They never came and looked at my car which sounds simmilar to yours. Is your insurance covering all those mods. mine does anyway but it didnt matter to them.
