Pajero IO Lift

Post by zerosignal »

Does anyone know much about the Pajero IO's. They share the same super select 4x4 as its larger brother. I am looking to find out what I can do with mod's IE lift kits mainly as engine work is easy. I have a TJM alloy bar and Genuine Towbar. My aim is to give it a bit more power and a bit of a lift (50-100mm)

1.8l or 2.0 iO ?
I am thinking a turbo 4g93 or 4g63 transplant would give a nice boost in power. (lancer gsr engine or evo engine) could bolt right in although have to do some crap with east-west 'vs' north-south config i am guessing. (iO's engines are mounted north-south are they not ?)

1.8ltr iO, doesn't do to badly for power... Already enquiring into a heart transplant for it. Apparently the only thing I need to change is the direction of the plenum chamber. I have looked into that and the easiest way to do it is put a after market veilside one on with a 100mm throttle body or maybe just get the donk from a Pajero Evo and drop that it.... Bolts straight up..... then just after market piggy back engine management to control ignition and fuel (Autronic :D has all I need) leaving the rest to be control by the factory computer and then a improvement in fuel supply... hmmm maybe bosch fuel pump..... the plot thickens... I think I may need to win Xlotto LOL :bad-words: but gee it would be fun for giggles  220kw in Pajero iO. Now thats a wolf in sheeps clothing

100mm throttle body

Post by zerosignal »

No not on a n/a 1.8 (current heart).... actually 2.0 turbo @ 1.4 bar boost (new heart from EVO if I get my way). Was actually contemplating using the larger (not quite 100mm, possibly 80mm odd from memory) quad throttle body off of a Nissan Pulsar GTiR after doing the turbo conversion. I just love the responsiveness the quad throttle body invokes. Lookin into logistics of finding Plenum off of a EVO and doing the addaption. If it looks like I have to change gearing though I may just have to stick to more aggresive cams and remapped engine management. Looking into ways of squeezing extra giggles out of this vehicle. First step is suspension though which is turning out to be easier said than done.... not much in Oz for these things. :)

With 4x 80mm throttle bodies on a 2L engine, you will have no throttle response unless your reving the crappers out of it. The throttle size would more likely be under 60mm and even then thats pretty large for 500cc (each pot).

Your better off lowering the vehicle, putting big sticky low profile tyres on it and going from there. A peaky 2L turbo is going to be poo off-road!

Here you go, a quad throttle body setup for the SR20DET of a GTi-R. 48, 50 & 52mm, a lot smaller than 80!

My bad fella, been doing the research myself and found I sound like a d!ck quoting off what another bloke said. Have decided prefomance has to come much later and would probably in the form of cam and ignition work. I need more torque. Also a lift of some kind as the bash plate on the iO now looks like its inside out  You have to hate submerged large rocks in sand..... Also any reckomendations on tyres that are good for sand work..... probably time to go search through the forum for the countless threads on which is the best tyre :?:

zerosignal: Narh your right, gotta start somewhere, Im still just a mere amateur in comparison to many people out there.

I reckon if your going to stick with that engine, get some headers fitted, a 2" maximum (even that might be too large, 1.75" would probably be better) cat back exhaust. That will boost your bottom end torque, and a stage 2 cam (if available for your engine) focusing on mid range power.

From the billions of threads I've read recently, Highway Terrain tyres are best suited to sand work. But no one wants HTs, they look boring :D

Enjoy the research... It did my head in, and im still kinda tossing up what tyre to get with only a week left till the purchase...

OOOOOOOooooooo those EVOs are gorgeous, but for 50k, i dont think so!

Cheers South, I had a look at the exhaust last night and its a suprising large diameter, appears to be 1.75" most of the way through. Spent to much time looking at while trying to straighten the bash plate. I'm looking into cams at the moment for that low mid torque. Its a bit odd as the lancer cams fit but are quite different (designed for different power and torque range). I'm trying to geet specs for the iO cam and compare it to the lancer ones as theres not a lot of gear designed for the iO. It looks like I'll have to go custom or import from Japan for both cam and exhaust  I'll look into the Highway Terrains as I really dont give a rats what they look like... just how they function.... Tyres are just a large chunk of rubber attached to the rim to me, they perform a function and I want the most suitable for my application. The rest of the vehicle I want to look good and function :D Looks like I have a mate who will make me up a custom bash plate out of checker plate which should look tuff

Just got word from 4wd specialist... apparently no one has lifted a iO  but.... it is on the list for kit development and they have said that if I send my springs a dampers to them they will develop a kit for me at a reasonable price as they will then sell a iO lift kit due to a reasonable amount of inquiries. Just no one has put there hand up to be a guinea pig yet which is the only reason it hasn't been done. I may end up with the first lifted iO before we know it  Hmmmm I wonder how high I can go

I've got a complete 2 1/4 inch Lukey exhaust system on my feroza with lukey 4-1 headers. It's only a 1.6 and it has more down low torque then a standard feroza. Sounds like it's got a WRX engine under the bonnet ;)

Have recently done a little research into tyres and apparently there is not a huge deal you can do to get wider tyres on them
There are a couple of types of tyres that you can get that are far better than the yokohama's but the tyre and rim choice is extremely limited due to the suspension setup. After my lift has been done  I may have more room for tyres and a change in rims, this may include flares and changing things a bit. Will keep you posted. Unfortunately getting married is limiting my budget for mods at the moment

Has anyone used Ironman Suspension.
Found that they do a suspension upgrade that ups the spring rate by 25% and gives a minor lift? Is the Ironman stuff good? Also found coil spacers, is this safe/any good. They have 30mm spacers. I was thinking a cobination of the 2 and some rancho shocks if I can get them to fit. Any opinions on the rancho shock models?
