A stock dana 44 front will not hold up to 38's for very long at all
The uni joint will break first which then takes out the inner and/or outer axles.
I would not have any confidence running 38's and a 44 front.
On the other hand you can build a lot of strength into one if you have some money
With CTM uni joints, and alloy axles they will hold up to 38's for some time.
The length of time is dependant on the weight of the rig, driving style, horsepower etc.
HP9" front is probably the next upgrade before a 60.
Realistically you need one ton outers to get some serious strength for big tyres.
NFI on strength in comparison to toy and nissan diffs as I do not have enough experience with those brands to comment.
