Post by BOGAN V8 »

Just a question for the people competeting in TUFF TRUCK or anyone has anybody been sent the info for the event and the rules regarding the car setup

What you got to have and all the stuff you have to do The rules on the tuff truck site are not really clear :? :? :? :? :?

Dont want to get up there and not compete because of one thing we dont have........

Wasnt there going to be a pre inspection for the truck before the event????

some of the rules they have added/changed at the last minute suck :(
For example:

>Windscreens - All vehicles must have a windscreen securely fitted as per
>normal. Our apologies for previous information supplied which has been
>overruled by the event organisers. The reason stated was increased
>occupant safety against intrusion, obviously during a rollover or such.

Not sure how much it is really increasing occupant safety....

>Spare tyres and Wheels - as these must be carried on the vehicle at the
>start and finish of each stage, it is mandatory that your spare is
>securely mounted to the vehicle at scrutineering also. Don't forget to
>pack your jack and wheel brace also.

I don't know where they are going with this one as I can see people having a 31" they take on and off or something.

Great fun getting some backflips towards the end so time is burnt up putting windscreens back on etc.

I am sure there is some logic somewhere...

Totally agree with you on these two topics zzzz a smashed windscreen would not be nice to compete with

as far as tyres go where would the big trucks put there spares like 44s and 46s

Have a spare you sit at the start or finish line, ya no worries. But carry it? Come on guys you have to be joking for starters do you realise how heavy even just a 38 is let alone a 44, but its not just the wieght here there is the size of the bloody things aswell. Have you thought that all these rigs are running true off road tyres and that these types of tyres will take being driven on dead flat without a hassle and that this will be quicker for getting them off the track then trying to safely change a tyre on the side of say rocky horror.

No windscreen is safer then with windscreen in a roll over if you have a true roll cage fitted as you have no chance of getting covered in shattered glass.

Totally agree with you GUTS its silly there is no room on a our zook to put the 37" :x :x :x :x

Having a windscreen on wont help us in a roll over thats what the roll cage is for all its going to do is break the glass and destroy the window surround

I dont see a problem with these updates. I think all vehicles should be running windscreens. Where not competing in buggies here they should all look somewhat like road going vehicles. And the spare tyre thing is no great problem if you have any idea on repairing tyres.

The windscreen rule has now change you DO NOT have to run a windscreen but it is advised that you have some sort of protection from recovery equipment if it breaks

weather youcan repair a tyre or not you still have to carry one with from friday nite till sunday arvo on the car which is crazy where is 37" gonna fit on a zook

Plus you have to carry it you cant dump it off at the start and then put it back on at the finish this rule sucks a$$

You dont have to carry a spare for any other comp during the year

The way i read the rules is that the spare must be secured to the vehicle at the start and finish of every stage. Nothing says you cant remove it and re-attach it at the end.

So ruff are you going to start the stage then make wess remove the tyre and sit it on the ground, then spot for you then at the end of the stage (say frame twister) run back to the start get tyre bring it back to the finish line remount it on ya rig all before the DNF time is up, I don`t think so. If its not back on before you finish you get a 10 point unsecued items penelty.

What you have said ruff is within the rules but just isn`t doable within a DNF time. Last time the DNF`s were 4 minutes, I`m hoping they are at least 6 mins this year as 4 is just to short IMHO. I think more so for the way beebee and greg work, but then I haven`t seen them go when they have a VERY limited amount of time :? so they might be different then what I have pictured from the ONCE I have seen them at werock.

We will just have to wait and see. It will be a huge disapointment to all involved if every rig winches every obstical.
