ok, flicking through some mags and came across this. " Nov 1997 LRO International" - Of particular interest were trials carried out in 1963 into over-snow vehicles. A Series 11 cab/chassis fitted with tractor tyres was imported and used in the worst of the winter weather up on the main range around Cabramurra. end quote. this is re the rovers working the snowy river scheme. now first of the licence plate was C 11060. shurly this vehicle must be somewhere. 2nd, i don't think it was a forest rover. from the photo's in the mag. the hub reduction set up looks different, from my memory(look out), of the photo's that "Nick in the Falklands" took of his FR. also the wheels and tyres look to be bigger and the rear track seems to be the same as the front.
cheers, Serg

S11 over snow

I actually have that issue but forgot that article was in there. According to Bill (Daddylonglegs), that IIA was an OZ "copy" of the forest rover but using the stock axles and without hub reduction - which makes for ridiculously weak axles - even if they used a One-Ton as the base vehicle. You can see the stock looking front swivels in the pics with what look like "extensions" coming out from them. There would be a huge loading on the swivel pins, and the fore-aft movement of the wheel when turning would be terrible, since the pivot point is so far in from the wheel centre.
