Water leak and head gasket replacement
Water leak and head gasket replacement
My TB4.2 DualFuel GQ died out on me today.
Reason: no water in LPG gas converter (which promptly froze over)
The problem: 2-3 litres of water disappeared.
Me and a friend feverishly looked for a leak, just about everywhere the water pipes run, plus all around the water pump and gas converter, but to no avail. No evidence of water leaking anywhere.
Exhaust seems very moist. Could be a byproduct of the LPG system, or could be where the water is going.
To top it off, the water in the radiator has froth. Gas leaking into it? dunno...
So apparently my head gasket needs to be laid to rest, as it seems the most logical place for the water to disappear.
I have a gregory's and a quick review of the procedure says I'll also be changing my exhaust manifold gasket (and possibly other gaskets) as well.
It doesn't look to be too financially frightening, but I'd like some testimony from people who've done it as to what I'll end up replacing, what I'll end up paying, any good written material on it (on top of the Gr' manual), important pointers, things to watch out not to do or be careful around, specialized tools I may need and any other useful bits of info, or even alternative theories on lots of water disappearing that do not involve the head gasket.
Thanks!

Yep sure sounds like you shit a head gasket but I hate to be the bringer of bad news but the tb42 is renound to also crack the head......
Pull everything apart and you will have to send the head away for pressure and crack testing and to be decked. they will advise if the head
is cracked or not if you can't see any cracks when you pull it off the block.
May as well have the radiator cleaned at the same time as it seems that you are getting oil in the water hence the white froth???
Don't drive it any longer it will only make it worse

You could also have head problems, my water jacket corroded through into No6 cylinder, it seemed to have less meat in the jackets at the back, whether by design or the angle, I don't know.
Good Luck
