Power Steering query

Post by Red_MAv »

I have just finished installing the high pressure hose from the power steering pump to the box on my sons 92 petrol patrol, there is a small electrical wiring loom that comes from a sensor of sorts in the hose right where it joins the pump. When fitting the hose the wires snapped from the fitting and its pretty much impossible to rejoin them (besides they are both black so I dont know the polarity) Everything seems to be working just fine after bleeding the system and no leaks which is good. Can anyone tell me where this sensor sends info or does it matter if its not connected. My maverick 1989 doesn't have this electrical bit and yet the rest of the hose seems the same. Any info would be appreciated.

Sounds like a temp light sensor. If both wires same color it wont matter. Join them together and see what light comes on.

Is it EFI ? Could be the load sensor for the EFI to up the engine Revs when turning the steering wheel.

It is EFI, and when when i joined the two wires together nothing lit up anywhere so what are the implications of not hooking it up. The wires have snapped off at the sensor right level with the plastic they are embedded in. If I drill a small hole beside each wire and get the other end of the wire in and solder it will the polarity matter as mentioned in my first post both are black.

It probably wont matter about the polarity. It should would work alright with out it. What happens when you turn it to full lock ? It should slow down the revs, With the switch connected it will bring the revs up.
