Knocking on take off

Post by EricB »

Hi

After my last 4wd trip I have noticed a noise on the rd in 2wd.

If I take off nice and slow I can hear like 3-4 little knocks around the time of the clutch engaging. Sounds like front part of the car. Would it be the clutch or something like a CV?

Its a 1988 GQ SWB

Cheers

Sures its the front?

Could be the rear drive shaft unis or such are shagged. I know on the lux the centre bearing does it on take off when its gone.

Mine does this and the front radius arm bushes are shagged, Ive not replaced them yet to be certain that this is the cause but I'm 99% certain that this is the problem.

Perfect time to lift it and put castor correction bushes in!!!

Yea I will have to give it a good clean underneath and have a look. Its not a good feeling after a day of 4WDing and you have another new noise.

possibly a body mount loose.. when i fitted body lift had similar noise coming from body mounts after everything had restettled and body mount bolts needed retightening..should do the trick.. is it the same kind of knocking noise u get when u drive ur gq in the rain? this will confirm body mount noise...
