LN46 5 speed gearbox conversion

Post by DUR71 THOUGHTS »

I am looking at changing to a 5 speed but don't know exactly what is involved.

What gearboxes from newer hiluxes will suit my car and what sort of modifications will I need to make?? I am hoping it will just bolt straight in but I don't think I could be that lucky!!!

It is an 83 LN46 2L diesel motor.

Any help would be appreciated.

I had my four speed modified to a five speed by Australia's best motor company in Smithfield, Sydney. Cost around $1200 for the full rebuild with the fifth gear cluster and end layshaft bearing added in... Makes a world of difference.
Custom body work by trees and rocks...

the 5th gear mod sounds good. I've never heard of it being done, but for the price you can't beat $1200.00

You can fit a G52 5 speed in it, but from memory the crossmember will need to be changed, the shafts will need lengthening & shortening.

Also I think (Don't quote me on this) the slave cylinder is on the other side of the bell housing!

My brother fitted up a G52 to his LN46 about 15 years ago & from memory this is what he needed to do!

It sounds like a lot to change but bear in mind that all of these parts can be got from any later wrecked lux pretty cheap- would think much less than $1200.
