High Mount Warn Winch Motor

Would someone be able to give me some advise on sourcing a new motor for my high mount warn winch. Last time i used it, it got really hot and slow! I may be interested in a secondhand one but would like to check out new ones for now. If you can help me, would you know what sort of price I am looking at for a standard HP?

How old is your highmount champ. You would be best going for a 6hp motor. I have one for sale for $500 second hand if you are interested and will get you a price on a new one tommorrow aswell.

How about the new 7.8hp motor from SuperDuty?? They're are a bit longer than the std units, but all other dimensions are the same.

Craig is just in the process of securing a distributer in Aussie, but it is unlikely to be confirmed for another week or more. So in the meanwhile, it would be best to go through him, as he will be able to advise on specs and price.

Cheers for the interest, I will keep you informed as much as I can people, the first shipment of motors into the country has sold out and are being used now, still waiting on feedback about the performance due to them being so new. They have been designed over the last few years particularly for our terrain and requirements, and look like being the bees knees so to speak. There are negotiations underway to find a distributor in Australia, if anything comes of it you people here will be in the first group to know. Should have worked out a costing to get them from NZ to Oz within the next few days. They wont be cheap, the big grunter could be around a grand in cost but hey, horses for courses really.....

At $600+ for a 24v Warn motor im still pretty interested but would like to eyeball one and have a look at the construction. Being made in USA should be a good thing compared to the stuff that comes out of China (heaps of winches come from there now, id brought a 5.5 hp T-MAX motor and was appalled by the way they were constructed and needed heaps of rework ) but a lot of USA based companies which claim "Made in USA" actually get them manufactured in some South American countries and ther quality can be questionable. Not being negative hear just like to know when i spending my $$$$ its worthwhile.

The motor is pretty old and corroded. I'm really just enqiring about a new one at present but if they're too expensive (wife's decision) i might consider secondhand one. Thanks for helping me out!

winch motors i bought a brand new 24v high mount from snake racing so i could compete in the first round of the Genie winch challenge. It was 4.5hp it only lasted one winch challenge. I had a motor rewinder look at it in brisbane before i sent it back to sydney to be looked at for warranty. It went to The Winch Doctor (Macurie Four Wheel Drive) now they are giving me the run around. The motor (before i got it) had the thermistor wires cut so it would not shut down when overheated. They have told me the motor got to hot and burnt out... I had to buy a new motor to be able to compete in the Xtreme Winch Callenge I bought a 12v 6hp from Dave Metcalfe 0418745830 much faster than the 24v motor but they dont last as long when they have 24v running through them. It lasted the Xtreme so it is doing better than the original. Cheers

Warn dont make a 4.5 HP 24v winch motor they only have a 2.5 HP, after burning out my 24v motor i was informed if you stall a 24v winch it practicly destroys the motor instantly ( i did break my 11mm plasma so it was oulling pretty hard). The HP doesn't increase winch performance under load the higher HP motor's get higher HP by spinning faster and the unloaded line speed will be better but you need to use caution when changing direction of the motor as it damages the motor and can break gear's. The torque is what pulls the cable under load and the maximum torque is determined by volts and available amp's. Just by replacing the motor with a higher HP motor wont make more powerful winch it just wind the cable in faster with no load.

What kind of motor do you have because no word of a lie with the new motor 12v 6hp running on 24v it is about 40% quicker than the 24v 4.5hp cheers
