well i have broke 2 rear diffs in 1 week. same thing both times. centre pin snapped. have got the whole replacing it thing down to an art. can do it in less that 2 hours. but..i dont want to be doing this. i have done a huge search on toyota centres conversion..not that i know wat all those numbers and ratios mean. can someone tell me exactly wat i need in laymans terms? ie you need a diff from a 1980 hilux. blah blah..
or
is it worth me maybe just to buy a locker for the rear and upgrade my axles?
thanks ..im not trying to be a pain!!!!

Toy diffs.
rear low pinion.
pic a ratio that returns gearing to Std with the tyre diam you wish to run. (Have a excel spread sheet that I can email you)
Front: Hi pinion or jacmac centre. (need to be hi pinion to clear steering.)
If required I have a template/jig that can be used for drilling the Rover housing.
new studs M8 buy 30mm 8.8 studs.
8mm tap and drill tosuit.
Axles:
Rear: Jac mac inc flanges around $700.00
will require rear spindle to be bored out about 20 thou. aprox $40.00 for both.
Front: Jac mac axles around $550-600.00
will have to decide which CV you wish to run.
If you run toy cv you will need drive flanges.
Spindles again have to be bored if you go with 30 spline toy cv.
Swivell ball housing needs to be bored 20 thou aprox.
pinion flanges (toy diff) need to be machined and drilled to take rover drive shaft.

no worries. thanks for that. though depending on prices it still maybe cheaper for me to go a detroit locker for the rear with upgraded axles and a tru trac for the front... i am looking at $1300 for a detroit locker from Opposite lock.

Is that the cost of the Detroit! You can get an ARB, JacMac or Maxi locker for that much when you also factor the axles in.

You would be looking at about $1300 for an ARB locker + approx $850 for the maxi-drive axel kit. I think a maxi-drive locker would be a bit more.
Whatever you do you have to do the axels so in that case an ARB locker would probably be cheapest.

Or for cheapness sake you could just upgrade the rear to 24-spline discos and whack in an airlocker to get teh 4 hemispheres

If you get a quote from Maxi-drive I would be interested to hear the comparison.

That's what I have done. Bits for the 24spline conversion cost $250, but that was for the whole axle housing disc to disc. Plus I sold (well swapped for Bundy
) my old 10 spline hubs and stubs. The ARB cost $1050 and the loom $30. Already had all the other bits.
Only have 31's at the moment until I get my body lift and a few other things sorted.
