4runner experts... questions

Post by De-lux »

just half asleep pondering :?

ok, so i was chatting to Lou (lil oscar) and she told me that most 4runners are IFS... i thought they all were solid axle.

can someone answer these few questions for me:

1. Which models had solid axle? (year/s, models etc)

2. Which models had the removable roof? (i think they are made of fiberglass?)

3. pros / cons of these models? (are they very similar to hilux's)

basically im over having a ute (and im not a tradie) and want to "upgrade" to a wagon, and the main vechicle that comes into mind is a older removable hard top 4runner. i was thinking of commodore V6, full exo and the usual trimmings. this truck would be a relative cheapie, that i could flog around and beat the shit out of.

my toy while building the cruiser.

even though it is IFS it goes a lot of places i didnt think it would.

just put on the f/glass guards, doing the rear soon. then i can easily fit 35"s under it.

The IFS lifts work by dropping the entire axle housing and lower wishbones down, along with ball joint spacers for the top arms to allow slithgly more droop and compression... you look at gaining about 1" each way for a hell of allot of money

As stated by bubs... only 86 onwards came with IFS... and there are plenty of both around... just gotta look!

Bubs or 4sum4 would probably be your men to speak to...!
Cheers,
Dan.
