Old speedway trick but we put em in from the side rather than vertically.

We used "self tapping screws" back then ( that was before tek screws were invented ) and it took ages to put em in ...but now with a tek screw gun you could do it in under an hour initally and then I recon about 5 mins to do a tyre swap once the holes were there
The pain in the butt bit is markin all the spots for the holes, drillin em out to clear the tek screws ...... but once they are there its would be a breeze to do.

its been done for 30 years... we did it in enduros, and shit back in 80's and it was old school then. Mate dad did speedway in early 70s and he told us about it.
the other thing used are like nipples(cone shaped) moulded into the rim, like little sharp pins.. as you inflate the tire, the pins bite into the bead and hold it there.

as the pirate post says the only thing with a screw through the side of the bead is that there is not a lot to stop the tyre moving inwards. Through the side would stop the tyre spinning on the rim and help stop it unseating.
Might have to find some suitable rims and give it a go.

was gonna say the same thing.
screw into the tyre works well (as discussed by others), as the sealing surface remains relatively intact, but with the screws inside the air pocket but not into the tyre itself, the chance of leaks is too high. maybe this form of beadlock works in utopia.

The tek will thread the rim and cut into the tyre. When you do the thing up, the screw tightens against the rim and the relatively fine thread of the tek will not hold the tyre in place adequately. This was the problem when Mock tried it.
bead screws do work, but I thing to do is drill the rim, mount the tyre and then screw a coarse thread self tapper into the bead bundle area. If you go in from the side (as most drag racers do) you will need to be careful not to go right through the bead bundle, or you will get a very fast leak. this is another problem with teks, as the drill bit of the tek adds length increasing the chances of going right through the bead bundle.

And ofcorse, the high speed slides around corners with no air in the tyres dosnt help them stay on, hay steve
