hopefully someone might know.

i rooted a cv the other weekend, i just replaced it, but there is still a real bad clunking noise in the front when in 4wd. i noticed when i took the hub off a bit of metal fell out.

it is an 88 Surf with auto hubs, different to the latter Hilux ADDs hubs, i havnt seen ones like these before, dont know how they work. there is no switch or anything in the car.
obviously when i did the CV i also rooted the hub.

does anyone know if i can just replace these with normal manual hubs?

Yes
the IFS have a different spline count to the beam axle Toys so you need IFS hubs, Supawinch,+ AVM to name a few manufacturers.

So i can replace these auto hubs with manual hubs from an IFS hilux and thats it, i can drive away.

Pretty much.
You should permanently lock the the ADD and use the the hubs to unlock the front drive.

Here is a cut n paste from an article on www.off-road.com

Permanently locking the ADD unit: There are 2 hoses connected to the ADD actuator. The vacuum line on the passenger side (drivers side in Aus) of the actuator puts shaft into the diff and the other side removes it. I removed the vacuum tank and vacuum switches. Then I connected a single vacuum line to the passenger side(Drivers side) of the actuator to keep it locked. Then I and caped the driver side tube. This will prevent the ADD system from unlocking. The switches can be found behind the battery on the inside right fender, the vacuum tank is in front of the front right tire under the fender. Be sure to cap the vacuum feed from the engine to the switches or remove the "T" feeding it all together. I have found that the transfer case shifts much easer without the ADD system.

edit - Check that the clunking noise in the front isnt you crownwheel missing some teeth. They are weak as piss! Just drain the oil and see if it has any chuncks in it.
