Dependent on age I don't think so. I know that the Petrol V6 4Runners have a much larger R150F box (similar to Supra 5 speed.) But i'm sure the Lux's use the G52 or something. I'm sure someone will clarify.

In Oz models the base Hilux diesels use the same trans as the petrols but may have different gear ratios.

The V6 4Runner uses an R150 as mentioned above.

But the imported Surf turbo diesel versions also use the R series, either R150 or R151.

No worries, don't tow:). Is there any associated probs with it. I was reading a thread earlier that it throws 5th gear when decelerating same thing happens to mine I just stick it back in.

Gday
The 85 boxes were suspect where 5th cog sits on the shaft spline....they wear and this happens....later boxes were better, but still weak in that area....

Looking at your sig line i am presuming you still have a 4 speed. If so then yes there are 2 different gearboxes, the diesel box is totally different to the petrol box.
