speedo

Post by 45punkbus »

Driving home from work last night my speedo just dropped back to 0, then sometimes it would just bounce up and down not even to the speed i assumed i was doing (eg i was on aprox 80 and it was going from 0 to 50).

it seemed to work mainly when i backed off but the could have been a coincedence, we had a look at it this morning and the connection of the speedo cable onto the gear box was loose, we tightened it down and still nothing,

we turned the speedo cable by hand and it registerd on the speedo, we think its the connection at the gear box end but we are unsure what its suppose to look like,

i had a feel in the connect on the gear box side, it had to slits for which the speedo cable should slot into, but the cable itself only had one, is that right?

any help or ideas would be appraicated

thanks

Dean

forgot to add its a Hj 45

it's right. only one slit.

how fast did you spin the cable to get it to register (did you put it into the drill?)

most likely you fawked that little plastic gear mine fawked up twice... is your transfer case making lovely little noises, inferring something is loose?

mine snapped the cable about half way from box to cabin. could be the same has happenned to yours and every now and then is catching on itself causing the speedo to work momentarily.

Check the connection on the box first and if all's well pull your cable.
