Hi,

I contacted the RTA about the legal issues of a body lift, and was told that anything that wasn't offered by the manufacturer is illegal.

Now what I have read in some posts here is that there were some diesel Pajs that did come with an optional body lift and was wondering if anyone knew if this also applied to mine? I own an NG wagon V6 and would love to lift the body but don't want to go to the trouble of an engineers report and pay higher prem. for insurance.

LONG ANSWER BUT WORTH THE READ

The guy at the RTA saying anything not fitted from factory is illegal is downright misleading. He has simply swept you under the carpet with the easy 'it's illegal' answer
Going by this side steps, bullbars, spot lights and even CB areials are illegal with out an engineer cert. CRAP ON

The mod to lift the body would probally be classed a chassis modification and should be inspected by an engineer. He is basically looking that the vehicles mechanics and saftey have not been compromised. If you use solid spacers of the appropriate diameter, install suitable lenght high tensile bolts (cap heads) and make sure brake lines ar long enough (including travel) you should be alright

I know it sound alot but at the end of the day most ADRs are simple common sense with regard to saftey

That said there is an ADR wich states head light mis be within a minimum and MAXIMUM didstance from the ground. With most extreme lifts (body and suspension) you will probally find max height is exceeded

Don't fear engineers
They don't charge a fortune as most people think. To have body lift certified would probally come in at around &150 as it is a inspection only
I have consulted engineers in the past for various projects and found that they are just like us and ofter very interest in our ingenuity and cleverness . THEY LOVE TO MAKE THINGS BETTER ENGINEERED that is why they chose this career

But with all that above taken into account JUST BLOODY DO IT
This is a common mod and most rego inspectors would not notice a well executed job
