whats involved in installing a turbo

Post by Duff »

ive decided to put a turbo to me car but want to know as much as possible. the car in question in a 4.2lt diesel gq patrol with 230,000 on it.

befor putting on a turbo i do need to check compression. what else do i need to check before turbo goes in ie injectors, fuel pump)

what parts are needed for the install? (turbo, manifond, dump pipe, oil lines, new 3" exhaust, new air cleaner box)

is it hard to install?

what else needs to be adjusted? (fuel)

is it hard to fit an intercoola after the turbo installation or is it best to do it when the turbo goes in?

will a GU turbo system directly fit in to a gq.

GU will definately fit straight up to GQ. I have done it. Need oil feed and return lines, water feed and return lines, turbo, manifold, air leaner box from GU. ;)

If you can't get a air cleaner box from a 4.2 GU then get one for a RD28 or a ZD30 and make up a blank for the air flow metre hole.

3" dump pipe installed at time of 3" system will also make a huge difference. I did all this then run 11psi boost and got an aneroid fitted to the pump and dyno tuned at same time for $700. Goes well for just a tow rig.
Cheers
