BFG MT's 33/35x12.5x15 Rim Sizes

Interesting thing from the latest BFG Mud Terrain Brochure.

Tire size --------- Min Rim Width--- Optimum Rim -- Max Rim Width
33x12.5x15 --------- 8.5inch--------- 10inch ------------11inch
35x12.5x15 --------- 8.5inch--------- 10inch ------------11inch

So they have either changed it or was this the was before?

Either way, Me cant see people gettin em engineered on 8's "LEGALLY" anymore...

Then theres no way you could legally run them, as that was the issue with engineers demanding letters from tire manufacturers on rim widths before they would pass it?

Bruce I keep reading your posts about this issue and people who have had engineers sign off on their truck keep replying that the engineer gets a letter from the manufacturer to say that the tyre can satisfactorily be mounted on an 8" rim.

Whether it's fair dinkum or not I don't know- I have gone down the 315/75 x 16 route which can be legally mounted to 8" rim.

But if the engineers are passing it what's the problem? If someone has an accident then there's the risk of sueing, blah, blah, blah but I can't see how worrying about this will help anyone, as people in standard cars aren't completely free from the risk of lawsuits either.

The difference is that some 35x12.5's are approved by the manufacturer to go on an 8" rim, but the BFG's are not. An engineer cant over ride that as the tyre is still not on a recommended rim.

Something I did notice though, was on the US Cooper site, a lot of their 12.5" tyres have a minimum rim spec of 8.5" just like the BFG, but on the Australian Cooper website the same tyres are listed to be fitted onto 8" rims.

Are nominally 8" rims all REALLY 8" wide or do some go over/under like with tyre sizes?

Well I have seen rims that started life as 7", widened to 8" but the 7" stamp is still on the centre.

yea that was my point.

How can they get all serious and "TIGHTEN" the rules in NSW, if they dont stick to the ones in place now? I think it could be business as usual...
