Panhard rod question

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
am just wondering if anyone has ever run a panhard rod from the oposite side to the steering arm . I have put a hi lux diff under the suzuki and am running out of space for the panhard rod ( think that what you would cal it ) , anyway running it from chassis rail on left to diff on right will be heaps easier but the steering rod runs the other way and ends up on the diff on the left . Would this cause to much bump steer or any other weird steering ? This is not a zuk that sees the road anymore .

Cheers
Chris

I would expect it to magnify the bumpsteer.

panhard and draglink must be as close to parallel as possible to minimise bumpsteer - it will be appalling with them crossed. for a buggy you might get away with it but no engineer would pass it for on-road.

Is this leaf or coil sprung. If leaf, then forget it completely.

Not only bump steer but also roll steer.
I saw a comp rig set up this way in the early 80's, it was uncontrollable at any speed.

put hydraulic steering on it and run the panhard wherever you want.
