pulling centre out of GQ front diff? how to?

Post by CRUSHU »

ok, now i need to pull the centre out, and as i have not broken a cv yet, i am unsure of hoe the axles come out. i have the hub cover off, and the circlip, but does the disc and caliper have to come off? they stay on on a Dana 44. any more headaches to come? thanks

nope once you have the circlip off undo the following
1)the seal plate (big round circle bit on housing side of hub.. i think there are 10 bolts)
2)brake lines
3)tie rod at atleast one side
4)king pin bearings (i think thats what they called... on top and bottom of hub (4 bolts on each)
im pretty sure thats all there is it been a while since i did mine
then the whole disc/caliper/axle assembly should all slide out as one piece

if you have any hassles pm me

Cheers

sweet, all done. thanks heaps for your advice.

in the end, i left the hub etc intact, undid the 2 caliper bolts (easier and safer than undoing the brake lines, if it were still in the car, i wouldn't have to bleed the brakes, and there is no danger of wrecking the brake pipe or fittings) and the top and bottom bearings, and the bolts.

the bearing bolts are 14mm, the caliper bracket bolts are 17mm, the turning stopper is 13mm (use deep drive socket) the rest of the bolts are 12mm. the centre nuts are 14mm.

maybe this can be added to the bible?
thanks heaps!

that is the easy way to do it,
you could have also,
removed hub, circlip, and freewheeling hub parts,
un bolted calliper,
un done wheel bearings, remove disk,
remove stub axel
and pulled CV and shaft out,

that way you check all your wheel bearing while your there.

but i removed the hub and circlip, then could not work out how to remove freewheeling bits and bearings.
