due to your location.. a big lift and runnin 35's is basically illegal there :(

89 GQ is very old... u can see most wagons going for around 5-8 k nowadays... and an ute conversion costs bugger all if you can fork out the extra for an ute shell or do a chop for an extra cab..

a 302 windsor - not bad... about 4 k for conversion includin engine i think???

Do what makes ya happy.. its your money after all :D :D

those tyres will be illigal on it, so it wont pass a roadworthy. is it sold registered or unregistered? does the engine conversion have the proper mod plate?

If you need to borrow some 31"s to get a rwc I have 4 spare on rims here... but my 5th is screwed.

If it's still regoed you may get someone to approve it, but 35"s are definately illegal in qld.

Saw this today - it's at a car yard in Lawnton. Stood out becasue it had a big "V8 $14,990" across the window. I assume it is the same one - Red in colour??

Anway, given that it is a car yard selling - a) must be roadworthy (ie, LEGAL) and, b) must have clear title.

Either it hasn't been roadworthied yet (which is illegal for a car yard in Qld, because they must display a blue inspection certificate on ANY vehicle offered for sale) or it has been dodgied up.

Or, all the mods could have been approved!!

Either way, nice looking rig. Good luck with the decision.

Anything has got to be better than a Hilux. :D Not a bad price for a ute but coils would be better.

We just looked at that truck it is overpriced for leaf springs. A mate bought a 1996 150 000kms GQ ute coil cab from Lawton for $16 000. It had a safari Turbo on it aswell. Shop around because they are around - be wary of the el cheapos though

Depends on the age of the Windor. An EFI windsor (which it should be to be legal or has to be on dual fuel or have been emissions tested to be legal) will put out from 165kw-220kw. Substantial improvement on the 129kw of the stock engine, and lighter on the fuel too.

An older windsor as mentioned would either need to be on LPG or have been emissions tested to be legal. Still possible to do, but generally the costs of proving emissions compliance make this a more difficult option.

Older windsors are similar in power - no efi but little difference due to lighter emission requirements.

You might find being a ute, and this a commercial vehicle would mean lighter pollution requirements and thus an older passenger car engine might be able to meet those standards. Dunno the exact standards - you'd need to specify year of engine manufacture and body manufacture to know.

Without a mod plate though... walk away.... and once you get out the gate RUN!

If your talking about adventure 4x4 then i would advise not to touch them. I have never had a bad experience but i have never bought from them. When i was in the market for a GQ wagon he said, (something like) "We don't have any in at the moment but i know of one comming in from an old lady who's husband just died and she can't handle such a big car" The second he told me that, and from the look of the cars they had and the prices they had on them, i knew they were'nt to be touched.

Bro. In Law... picked up a 1996 td42 gq coil utersaurus from Inverell for $11500. Had just over 200k on it.

No rust. Has dual tanks/airbags...very tidy but also nothing special
